The competitive matches of the semi-finals of the MWSC MNUSU futsal fiesta 2019 were held last night. The two teams that secured a spot in the finals from the men’s division are, AVID and CYRYX college.

The chief guests of the match between CLIQUE and CYRYX college in the semi-finals of the men’s division was the rector of CYRYX college, Dr. Ali Fawaaz Shareef, vice rector, Abdullah Nazeem Ibrahim and CLIQUE college’s dean, Mariyam Shifna. The match between these two colleges were tied with a score of 2-2 after a very fierce match.

The two teams got tied with a score of 2-2 which led them to the penalty rounds, CYRYX college won the round, among the 6 penalties that they got, they scored 5 of them and secured their spot in the finals. CLIQUE college scored 4 goals out of 6 in the penalty round. The man of the match was the goal keeper of CYRYX college, Hassan Naseer(J1).

The second round of the men’s division of the semi-finals were played between AVID college and the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (FEST) from MNU. The chief guest of this match was the dean of Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, Dr. Shazlaa Mohamed and dean of students of the Maldivian National University, Naadhiya Ahmed.

The match between AVID college and FEST finished with a score of 8-0 with AVID securing it’s spot in the finals; the second half was a very heated as AVID college scored 7 goals. The man of the match was Hussain Shuhail(J10) from AVID college who scored 3 goals for their team, (the second goal of the match was scored in 24 min and the third goal in 25 min).

The final match that will be played between CYRYX and AVID college will be today at 04:45, the match will take place at Ekuveni Velidhandu. This is the second match that CYRYX will be playing in the futsal fiesta. CYRYX college was the runner-up team in the 2016’s futsal fiesta.

MNUSU Futsal Fiesta is the biggest sport event of Maldivian higher education sector. This tournament is organized by Maldives National University Students’ Union (MNUSU). This is the 7^th edition of MNUSU Futsal Fiesta. The first ever edition was held in 2013 and from then on, the tournament was held, without a break, each year. Last year’s edition introduced women’s trophy of the tournament, where Clique College claimed the first ever women’s trophy of the tournament. MAPS College took the men’s deviant after defeating Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies who ended up as the runner- up for the second running year.

Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) is the main and title sponsor of MWSC MNUSU Futsal Fiesta 2019. Printing partner of the tournament is M7. The tournament is further supported by Youth Sports and Community Empowerment, Dhiraagu and Visit Laamu while PSM Sports is the official media partner of the tournament.
