Deputy Vice Chancellor Ms. Aishath Shaheen, Dean of Students Ms. Nadhiya Ahmed of Maldives National University (MNU) and the executive committee members of MNUSU has met with the students living in the hostel (Majdhudhdheen Dhanaal) of MNU Male’ campus. The meeting, which featured the President Arushad Ashraf, Vice President (Wings) Ali Shamoon, Treasurer Abdulla Shahuneez, Secretary Anaa Ahmed and Media Coordinator Mohamed Shaan Amir of MNUSU, was held at the Faculty of Education (FE) Auditorium of MNU. Around 50 students of the hostel participated in this meeting which also included the Head of the Hostel Mr. Mohamed Nizar.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Ms. Shaheen, Dean of Students Ms. Nadhiya, President of MNUSU Mr. Arushad and Head of Hostel Mr. Nizar talked to the students in this meeting held on Friday, 13^th April at 04:00 in the evening. In the speech of Deputy Vice Chancellor, she said that it feels great to meet students who live in a hostel of MNU.

“I really want to hear the thoughts of you students. We will always stay close to you, checking over on your concerns”

said Ms. Shaheen. She further said that it is important for the students who live in the hostel to oraganize social activities on their own. She thanked the MNU Student Support Services and MNUSU on the work they do to help the students of MNU.

During the meeting

The dean of students Ms. Nadhiya Ahmed stated that she has always had a keen eye on the state of the students of the hostel. Furthermore, in her recent visit to the hostel she was delighted to see that cleanliness of the place was maintained.

“For the students there will always be a way to meet me at the students support office. Opportunities to talk to me will always be provided.”

Ms. Nadhiya highlighted in her speech. In addition, she mentioned that there are many ongoing discussions to solve the problems students are currently facing at the hostel. She also emphasized on the continuous help MNUSU and MNU management is providing for the hostel students.

President of MNUSU Mr. Arushad Ashraf also spoke to the students of the hostel. In his speech he highlighted on the works of MNUSU so far this year. He stated that MNUSU has met with the students who live in the hostels of all atoll campuses of MNUSU and that this meeting with Majdhudhdheen Dhanaal completes the meetings for all hostel students. He further stated that MNUSU has heard the voices of the hostel students and that the team of the Union will remain steadfast in continuing to help reach the voices of the students to the higher management of MNU. He also said that MNUSU will “directly” solve the problems of the students whenever possible.

“We are always working towards the betterment of the students of the hostels of MNU and all students of the University, in general. We will help the children in whichever way possible. Our office will always be open to our members and they can visit us and talk about any of their concerns to any of our executive committee members.”

Arushad stated in his speech. He loaded thanks to the Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Latheef, Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef, Deputy Vice Chancellors Dr. Muaviyath Mohamed and Ms. Aishath Shaheen and Dean of Students Ms. Nadhiya Ahmed of MNU for their continuous and great support for MNUSU.

Head of Hostel also talked in this meeting in which the students also shared their thoughts. The students shared some of the difficulties they face in the hostel and shared their thoughts on how to upgrade some of the services. Deputy Vice Chancellor Ms. Shaheen, Head of Hostel and President of MNUSU Mr. Arushad discussed these problems with the students and talked on how these problems could be solved. They reiterated that even if some problems are not fixed on the spot, these problems will be tackled as soon as possible.

An evening tea was given to the participants after the meeting by MNUSU. President of MNUSU assured that another meeting of such will be held to these students in the near future. Thoughts from some of the students after the meeting were taken and most of them said that they feel delighted with this meeting and thanked MNUSU for the initiative taken in conducting the meeting.
